Spectrem 1

Single-Component, Moisture-Cure Silicone Sealant

DESCRIPTION

Spectrem 1 is a high-performance, single-component, mois- ture-cure, ultra-low modulus silicone sealant.

USAGE/PURPOSE

Spectrem 1 is the ideal sealant for the most demanding dynamically moving joints. This includes material having a high coefficient of linear expansion such as:

‰ Spectrem Simple Seal ‰ Aluminium Curtain Walls ‰ Precast Concrete Panels ‰ Metal Panels
‰ Window Perimeters

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • ‰  Ultra-low modulus means high elasticity with movement ac- commodation of +100/-50%.

  • ‰  Withexcellentadhesiontoavarietyofsubstrates, oneproduct can be used for multiple applications on the same job from perimeter caulking to expansion joints.

  • ‰  An excellent choice for sealing difficult-to-adhere-to sub- strates.

  • ‰  Resistance to driving rain, ozone, ultra-violet light and tem- perature extremes safeguards against water penetration with exceptional weatherability in all climate zones.

  • ‰  Wide variety of colours.

  • ‰  No mixing required, so product is always ready to use for

immediate application with conventional caulking equipment.

SHELF LIFE

12 months when stored as recommended in original unopened packaging.

STORAGE

Store in original, undamaged packaging in a clean, dry, protected location with temperature between 5-43OC.

APPLICABLE STANDARDS

Spectrem 1 meets or exceeds the requirements of the following specifications:

‰ ASTM C920 Type S, Grade NS, Class 100/50, Use NT, M, G, A and O.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Surface must be sound, clean, and dry. Contact surfaces should be free of loose dirt, dust, oils, and any other contaminants. Tremco recommends that air temperatures be 5 °C or above before applying any sealant. If colder weather is imminent, please contact Tremco Technical Services or your local Tremco Sales Representative.

JOINT BACKING

Closed-cell polyethylene backer rods or the Tremco seal- ant tape illmod 600 is preferred as joint backing to con- trol depth of sealant bead. Where depth of joint will pre- vent use of joint backing, an adhesive-backed polyethylene tape should be installed to prevent three-sided adhesion. Joint backing must be dry at time of the sealant application.

PRIMING

Always perform project specific field testing to verify adhesion of the sealant to the substrate. If necessary, Tremco Silicone Metal Primer or Tremco Silicone Porous Primer may be needed.

APPLICATION

Spectrem 1 is easy to apply with conventional caulking equipment. Fill joint completely and tool. At 23.9 ̊C, 50% RH, a durable skin will form within 10 to 30 min.

CLEAN UP

Excess sealant and smears adjacent to the joint interface can be carefully removed with IPA Cleaner before the sealant cures. Any utensils used for tooling can also be cleaned with IPA Cleaner.

HEALTH & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) must be read and understood prior to use.

    LIMITATIONS

‰ Do not apply to damp or contaminated surfaces. ‰ Use with adequate ventilation.
‰ Not intended for continuous water immersion.

    JOINT DESIGN

May be used in any joint designed in accordance with accepted architectural/engineering practices. Joint width should be 4 times anticipated movement, but not less than 1/4” (6 mm) wide.

    SEALANT DIMENSIONS

    ‰ W = Sealant width, D = Sealant depth, C = Contact area

    EXPANSION JOINTS

The minimum width and depth of any sealant application should be 6 mm x 6 mm. The depth (D) of sealant may be equal to width (W) of joints less than 13mm wide. For joints from 13 mm to 25 mm wide, the sealant depth should be approximately one-half of the joint width. The maximum depth (D) of any sealant application should be 13 mm. For Joints that are wider than 25 mm contact Tremco Technical Services or your local Tremco Sales Representative.

    PERIMETER JOINTS

For fillet beads, or angle beads around windows and doors, the sealant should exhibit a minimum surface contact area [C] of 6 mm onto each substrate, with provisions for release at the heel of the angle using backer rod or bond breaker tape.
